Reports and Photos of One Love Jamaica Festival June 10-11, 2006
The One Love Jamaica Festival was held in Yoyogi Park, Tokyo on 10 – 11 June 2006 and attracted over 30,000 visitors, who enjoyed live Jamaican music and dance, as well as authentic reggae sound systems and deejays. The event also featured the sale of jerk chicken and other Jamaican delicacies, the exhibition of Jamaican paintings and photographs, and the display of Jamaica’s tourism attractions, art and craft and souvenirs. The highlight of the Festival was the annual Bob Marley Songs Contest, featuring Japanese singers performing Bob Marley songs before a mass audience and a panel of judges, with the winner receiving a prize trip for two to the Half Moon hotel in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
The inaugural One Love Jamaica Festival was held in Tokyo in 2004 to commemorate the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Jamaica and Japan.
A great debt of gratitude is owed to Mr. Ryuichi Tsuruno and Mr. Yoshihisa Haga, the main promoters of the event, for their ongoing commitment to the promotion of friendship, tourism and cultural exchange between Jamaica and Japan.
